Persuasive Definition

persuasive definition is a form of stipulative definition which purports to describe the true or commonly accepted meaning of a term, while in reality stipulating an uncommon or altered use.

A common thought manipulation technique (See: Cognitive Manipulation) is to create persuasive definition that aligns with your particular political agenda.

When you get, for example, two political parties creating their own definitions of the same word, you see situations where two people can think they’re communicating about the same concept but are actually discussing two different concepts that have the same name in their minds. An easy (but sometimes tedious) counter for this is to ask the other party to define what a specific word means to them.
